About
Between

Between is an experimental evocation of altered states, combining visual art, poetry and hypnosis to access the intelligence of your mind, for insight, creativity and healing.

Artist magician Rima Staines and trance technician Danny Nemu create a ritual space where journeyers gaze into an art-portal while listening to hypnotic inductions set to metre and rhyme. Each pairing of image and word evokes a different stage of the alchemical process, taking the viewer into a different zone of the imaginal - a space that is both collective and personal, strange and familiar.

The Artists

Rima Staines

ARTIST MAGICIAN

Rima’s work explores the edge of culture and consciousness in media from painting and drawing to animation and puppetry, printmaking, music and writing. Steeped in melancholy, story-rich and alchemical, it straddles myth, magic and folk art, and feels simultaneously both strange and familiar.

Her paintings have been exhibited widely in the UK, in France, the US and New Zealand, and in 2018 she was a finalist in the 'Best Artist' category of the World Fantasy Awards. She co-founded Hedgespoken, a travelling storytelling theatre and press, and her latest exhibition - Widdershins III - featuring a group of Dartmoor mythic artists, was featured on BBC Devon. She is currently illustrating a book of Bulgarian folk tales.

Between is an unfolding conversation between the collective unconscious and our individual experiences. Each stage is informed by the information and imagery that emerges during trance, and we recognise that other individuals have a part to play here.
